
Pay-LESS started in the office products industry in 1986 in the lunchroom of Omaha Paper Company. Our staff consisted of a Bookkeeper, General Manager, one Telesales person, and an Outside Sales Representative. We had an uphill challenge competing against experienced companies selling to their loyal customers.
The introduction of companies like The Office Depot in 1986 helped boost our growth by providing a better awareness of pricing and programs. Within years, many of our hometown companies either closed their doors or sold to these Wall Street companies. There are only two locally owned companies competing in this market today and both are very successful competing against these giants.
In 1996, Pay-LESS was awarded one of "The top ten fastest growing companies in Omaha" by the Chamber of Commerce. We have grown from a dealer doing less than $500,000 a year to a dealer with sales exceeding $12 million in 2002. We attribute much of our success to our employees and the consumers setting higher standards on their vendors.
The move to our 20,000 square foot distribution center has been very beneficial. We are the only stocking warehouse within 200 miles. Having the largest available inventory in Omaha, Pay-LESS
offers FREE next-day delivery. Pay-LESS Office Products has an inventory of 2400 SKU's costing $950,000. A tour of our facility is available and recommended.
Office products consist of 40% of our business, computer products consist of approximately 40%, while paper makes up the balance. Single sourcing is very important to help reduce paper work, vendors, duplication, and redundancy. Pay-LESS tries to capture the supplies, toner, and paper business to help streamline the workflow and simplify the need for multiple vendors. We have done this for several of our business partners throughout the years.
Products have been specially inventoried for customers upon request. For some of our business partners, items like starter kits for new employees, logo pens, logo pads, and forms management provides our consumers the flexibility offered through local warehousing. When a location runs out of a toner cartridge, report cover, batteries, binders, paper, and any other type of office supply, you'll have the confidence that Pay-LESS Office Products can meet those emergency needs.
Supported by our wholesaler, S.P. Richards, Kansas City and Minneapolis have facilities combining over 1,200,000 square feet with tens of millions of dollars of inventory on hand providing next day delivery to Pay-LESS. Other facilities include Chicago, St. Louis, and Oklahoma City. Pay-LESS offers more depth in distribution and availability on special order items than any of our competitors.
